Sitting pretty in the Northern part of the Persian Gulf, Ras Al Khaimah literally means “Top of the tent”. As one of the Emirates of the UAE, Ras Al Khaimah enjoys the distinction which is common to many in the UAE, namely a great way of life.

RAK boasts of a 64 kilometer stretch of beach along the clear blue Arabian Gulf.  If you are a mountain lover, do not worry. The Al Hajjar Mountains appear  on the distant horizon even before you reach RAK. The mountain range extends 46 kilometers with peaks reaching heights of 2000 meters.  At their foot, on the last stretch of plain before the mountains meets the water lies the town of Ras al Khaimah.

Sand dunes, silhouettes of Camels at dusk, historic watch towers and arabesque homes await longingly to feast your eyes on.

Medical facilities in RAK are of a high standard. Both public and private sector options are available. Currently there are 5 hospitals in RAK. The Health and Medical Services Department provides medical care for all UAE nationals, visitors and resident expatriates.


The Awafi Festival is an annual festival held during spring during January 11th – February 2nd The festival has its spotlight on the culture and traditions of Ras Al Khaimah. Folkloric exhibitions, art and handicraft displays, talent shows and other opportunities abound. 

Bull fighting, football tournament, camel riding, Dune climbing events and the Yola Traditional dance contest form some of the main attractions of this event. Motor sports and motor racing events bring in the crowds from places far flung. Designated spacious areas are given to families and one witnesses a canopy of tents in these areas throughout the event.
